Frequently Asked Questions
What is EAGALA?
EAGALA is a team based approach to therapy that allows clients to reflect, project and make deep connections. The EAGALA model is regarded as the industry standard for equine-assisted treatment in the mental health community.
When inside the arena, all the work is done on the ground with the horses allowed to interact with the client as they wish.
Through the EAGALA Model we are able to offer several programs, that include but are not limited to Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, such as leadership workshops and community events.
Intelligent Prey Animals
Horses are flight animals- their very survival depends on being extremely sensitive to their environment. This intuitive natural allows them to constantly analyze and react to our body language and other nonverbal cues. Their reaction provides us with valuable feedback and insights for other areas of our lives.
Large and Powerful
It's difficult to ignore a horse due to their large size and sometimes intimidating presence. Approaching and interacting with horses helps us reflect on how we approach our relationships, and how we can face each other big or overwhelming things in our lives. It takes us out of our comfort zone.
Herd Animals with Distinct Personalities
Essentially, horses are a lot like us. They are social animals with different personalities, attitudes, and dispositions. They are genuinely themselves all the time which impacts how we interact with them.
